Introduction

Tennis has been played at Birkenhead Lawn Tennis Club (BLTC) since 26th January 1892, originally originally called Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club and becoming BLTC in 1960. The club has six hard courts, three of which are flood-lit, and clubhouse with bar, kitchen and function area.

If you are interested in joining as Senior, Junior or Family members, please come down to the club or get in touch. All club members are required to be a member of British Tennis, membership is free for club members. In order to join, logon to British Tennis website.

Veteran Phil Leighton's league record smashed: On Tuesday veteran Phil Leighton record for early finishing in the Wirral League evening matches was taken a part in displaying of crunching ground strokes and killer volleys by Rhoda Unsworth that saw the completion of both ladies and mixed doubles matches before 8.15pm. Phil, though undoubtedly delighted for Rhoda, has not been available to comment.

Wirral Borough Council - "Planned developments impacting on Birkenhead Lawn Tennis Club"

Tennis for Free Tennis For Free Charity has joined a strategic partnership between Wirral Council, Cheshire LTA, the Malcolm Elgin Trust and Birkenhead LTC to help provide free tennis coaching for all players of all ages at Birkenhead Park every Sunday 2-4pm for the next two years (from 16th May 2010). Birkenhead LTC Club Coaches Les Wellens and Grant Mercer will be on hand to teach budding tennis players and manage the Sunday afternoon's at Birkenhead Park. Directions click here. Senior Tennis News

The Winter League has now started, see link below for details and fixtures. Tuesday nights continue to be Social Tennis nights so feel free to come along and play from 6pm onwards under floodlights. Match Practice will begin on Tuesday 3rd April 2012 from 6.15pm and will run for three subsequent Tuesdays.

Wirral Tennis League - April to July

Winter League Fixtures. If you are keen to play in the Winter Leagues, Sunday mornings from 10 am. Let Richard Chiverrell, Dave Prince, Tom Randall, Diane Duffey know a.s.a.p.

BLTC Annual Tournament

Further info: Starts in June each year, with Handicap and Open competitions taking place, both available to all members. For the 'Handicap' all players are graded according to standard and receive points bonus or penalties to even up the competition.
